Buffalo Spirit Ranch is EQUUS’s exquisite 11-acre Experiential Discovery and Learning Campus.
Nestled in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, Buffalo Spirit Ranch is a premiere location seated on sacred ground where the original land’s caretakers are still honored today. Extreme care of the land, animals and facility is maintained and the highest standards of quality and beauty are held. The venue can comfortably host groups of all sizes.
Among native piñon groves are secluded meditation and contemplative spots, seated areas and vistas, and a covered pergola overlooks the horse arena and paddocks…home to our EQUUS herd — five gorgeous horses and a donkey.
Adjacent to National Forest and within easy access to premiere hotels, several beautiful vacation rentals, and Tesuque Village. Historic Santa Fe is simply 15 minutes away. Buffalo Spirit Ranch - the EQUUS Discovery and Learning Campus is available to a handful of values-aligned professionals who wish to host a retreat or workshop.
You’ll have access to the 11 acre campus, it’s learning spaces (indoors and outdoors), and optional engagement with EQUUS Faculty to provide supplemental nature-based experiences if desired. Buffalo Spirit Ranch is available to book for needs such as executive retreats, private workshops, conferences, board meetings, and more. EQUUS Faculty are available for facilitation, or bring your own facilitators.
The EQUUS herd is protected, and interaction with them is only available with an EQUUS Experience Certified Facilitator (EECF).

Regenerative Land Management
Here at EQUUS, we strive to be in harmony with the land. With the guidance of various experts in the field of regeneration we are learning how to take care of the ecosystem at Buffalo Spirit Ranch by implementing an approach known as Regenerative Land Management (RLM). Regeneration is a nature-based way to restore damaged habitats through a range of practices that increase biodiversity, improve water and air quality, reduce flood risk, protect endangered species, attract pollinators, and improve soil health. Regeneration creates systems that not only restore the integrity of the land, but creates a perpetual positive evolution of the whole system over time. And just like our liberty work with the horses, we are discovering it is a way of life––a mindset––that has surprising benefits to other parts of our existence.
We engage with the land on four core areas:
Water Remediation / harvesting: The key here are the 4 S’s of water harvesting: Slow, Spread, Sink and Store.
Soil Reclamation: By utilizing our abundance of horse manure and implementing simple compost methods, we are boosting biodiversity and creating mycelium networks which connect individual plants together to transfer water, nitrogen, carbon and other minerals.
Forest Regeneration: We received a grant from the USDA to help preserve our ancient piñon forest.
Pollinator Conservation: We actively plant native bushes and flowers that attract and feed the bees and butterflies.
